Art in the Shop 2010

Art in the Shop, an annual Art and Music Festival, will be celebrating its twelfth year anniversary on October 2, 2010. From 10 am to 5 pm, the Shop Stage and surrounding area will be bustling with artists and the sounds of live music will fill the autumn air. The event will feature local and regional artists along with music and special events. Food will be available from Brushy Mountain Smokehouse and Creamery. This regional event offers the opportunity to shop many creations from this area’s artists and artisans who work in a wide range of mediums. Festivalgoers can walk through the whimsical world of metal sculpture by Richard Sinclair, whose creativity incorporates a veritable zoo of creatures from recycled metal, found objects and stone. Art in the Shop is excited to bring the wonderful folk art of multi talented Patti Fenwick to the show this year! Her vibrant paintings are found in many homes, galleries and museums. Other artists include wood and rock sculptures by Phil and Venus Bowman and hand crafted soapstone sculptures, bowls and utilitarian items by Marcus Miller. The unique copper and metal jewelry of Ellen Ball will be available. Meredith Janssen will have paintings and jewelry and Lori McClain will have handmade chain and bead necklaces. You can create your own raku pottery with Outlaw Pottery Studio, School & Gallery. Bring out your own inner artist. Purchase a piece of raku bisque pottery to dip glaze or paint glaze and have it fired in their on-site raku kiln while you walk around and enjoy the rest of the festival. Firing takes approximately one hour. Watch your pot in the making as they demonstrate the 16th century raku firing process. Other potters include, Varian Swieter, Todd Walker, Arnold and Wanda Correll and Carole Watts. Visitors can watch Jeramie Jones who will be demonstrating his amazing spray can art. Ann Marie Prater of Hickory will offer handcrafted leather goods. Bill Phillips will have his Mirrormi Suncatchers. New to Art in the Shop this year is Teena Stewart with her mixed media artwork and jewelry, and Mary Alexander of Magpie’s Treasures with her eclectic creations from the nest. View the fabulous paintings of Carolyn Asborne and the handmade crafts of Marianne Conner. Carolyn and Marvin DeHart will have handcrafted birdhouses, wooden toys and fabric creations. Art in the Shop performers include Miss Pamela who returns to enchant you with belly dancing demonstrations and tarot card readings and a full day of music featuring live on the Shop Stage, The Centerpiece Jazz Trio, Tony Eltora, Jared Allan & Company, J Patrick Warran and Students from Music & Sound Teaching Studio. In addition, just for the kids is “Kid’s World”. Sponsored by The Quilting Solution of Taylorsville, this area is where children can test their creative talents, while giving parents a chance to visit the rest of the festival.
